Will TOR rise above the challenges facing the oil and gas industry?

In this interview with David Ampofo (first broadcast in 2009), Dr Kwame Ampofo, the Acting Chief Executive of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) talks about his vision for TOR and how he intends to deal with challenges facing the Company.

“The function of the Tema Oil Refinery has been and should remain the refining of petroleum into petroleum products for the Ghanaian market and ensure that the engine of economic growth is moving”. He contended.

He stressed the need for participation by the private sector in the oil and gas industry to supplement the work coming from TOR.

“It is necessary that we create the opportunity for the private sector to participate in the down stream oil and gas industry simply because TOR alone by the capacity as it is right now can not satisfy the market; therefore we need this type of the collaboration with the private sector to supplement what Tema oil refinery is doing”.

He also noted that the competition would push TOR to justify its existence.
