Is Importing Chicken Good for Ghana?

In 2010 the EU, USA and Brazil together exported over 200 000 tons of frozen chicken to Ghana, valued at $200 million. Worse still, imported chicken is being sold at below the cost of local chicken, and farmers here simply can’t compete – resulting in the collapse of dozens of farms and the loss of hundreds of jobs. We speak to importer Nabil Mourkazel (Chairman, Finatrade), Kenneth Quartey (MD, Sydel Farms), Alhaji Akate (MD, Akate Farms) and Dr. Yaw Graham (Third World Network).
